Why digitize your family's recipes

Handwritten recipes fade, get stained and go missing when people move. Often there's only one copy, kept in one kitchen. Putting them on your phone means they no longer depend on a sheet of paper, anyone in the family can look them up, and the dish you grew up with keeps turning out the same.

How to digitize a handwritten recipe in 3 steps

  1. Snap a photo: in good light, with the whole recipe in the frame.
  2. Fogón reads it: AI recognizes the handwriting and builds the title, ingredients and steps. If the recipe is in another language, it translates it into the app's language.
  3. Review and save: fix anything that needs it (that “pinch” or “as much as it takes”) and save it to a recipe book.

No paper copy? You can also type the recipe yourself or tell it in a voice note.

Tips for a photo that reads well

A family recipe book so nobody misses out

Create a family recipe book and invite your siblings, cousins or kids with a link or a 6-character code. Each person can add the recipes they have at home and, together, you can rebuild the whole family cookbook. If you prefer, you can also keep them in a private recipe book.

Then cooking them is easy: cooking mode shows one step per screen in big type, and the grocery list combines ingredients from several recipes and sorts them by aisle. Want to save recipes from cookbooks or screenshots too? See how Fogón works as a recipe keeper.

FAQ

Can Fogón read cursive or old handwriting?

In most cases, yes, especially when the photo is sharp and well lit. Like any automatic reading, it can make mistakes with very difficult handwriting or faded ink, which is why you can always review and edit the recipe before saving it.

What if the recipe is in another language?

Fogón writes the recipe in the language you use the app in and translates it when needed. Perfect for recipes that came from another country with the family.

Can my whole family see the recipes?

Yes, if you save them in a family recipe book: you invite anyone you want with a link or a 6-character code. Recipes in a private recipe book are only visible to you.

How much does it cost?

You can start for free. There's an optional Premium subscription that raises the limits on recipes, recipe books and AI imports.
